In years past, the placing of real flowers on graves of our beloved did not present too great a problem to the cemetery, even on special occasions such as Easter Sunday, Mother's Day, Memorial Day and Father's Day. By the time the grass required it's next mowing, the flowers had withered and were removed.
Today, with the advent of beautiful, lasting artificial flowers it has become a serious problem for every cemetery, including ours. We find it impossible to first remove the artificial flowers, then mow the grass, and finally replace them. Errors in replacing them are bound to occur and the labor cost prohibitive. Wind alone blows many from the graves they were intended for.
In order that we maintain a level of maintenance that our lot holders deserve, we have no alternative but to remove them so as to mow the grass. Here, as in other cemeteries, the following procedure will prevail:
-
Wednesday is cleanup day. Fresh cut flowers in good condition will remain. Wilted flowers or any artificial flowers will be removed. From March 1st thru November 15th, only fresh cut flowers are permitted.
-
Flowers will remain the Wednesday immediately following the holidays of Easter, Mother's Day, Memorial Day and Father's Day. Pick up will resume the next Wednesday.
-
Containers made of glass, pottery and other easily broken material are prohibited and if placed will be collected and discarded. Power mowers hitting pieces of glass or wire can throw these sharp items through the air for 100 feet or more, endangering the lives of workmen and visitors alike.
-
Artificial flowers and wreaths in good condition will be permitted to remain from November 15th thru February 28th. Also during this time, Remembrance Lights may remain on the graves.
-
Permanent type vases only will be permitted in the cemetery.
-
Only the casket spray will remain on the grave after an interment is complete.
